I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science from Furman University. If the school had offered minors in the same fashion as most universities, I would have graduated with a minor in Chemistry. During my tenure, I was inducted into Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the computer science honors society.

I received my Master’s Degree from Appalachian State University, also in Computer Science. While there I took over 20 hours of Psychology, including one graduate level course and an independent study where I assisted with research. My thesis involved the automated generation of music based on the style of previously composed pieces.

I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science at Florida State University. I was a GAANN fellow and was in the computer architecture group under Dr. Dave Whalley and Dr. Gary Tyson (my co-advisor), but I actively work in collaboration with Biology and Statistics. I worked with Dr. Dave Gilbert from Biology and Dr. Jinfeng Zhang from Statistics and from this collaboration grew CompuStat. CompuStat was a group dedicated to fostering connections between the sciences, including Biology, Computer Science, and Statistics. In the fall of 2009, I began work with Dr. Jonathan Dennis (my other co-advisor) researching chromatin structure and nucleosome positioning.

After my position as a Postdoctoral Fellow of the American Heart Association continuing my research in the Dennis Lab, I have moved on to a Software Engineer position at Homes.com.
